The changing role of sensors and biomarkers in the bio-pharma, devices and diagnostics industries

Sensors are much more than simply a reliable method of detecting antibodies in blood, whilst biomarkers are playing an increasingly important role in applications ranging from stem cell biology, to genetics and genotyping. Experts from Cambridge explain how their sensors are changing not just the way we diagnose and monitor disease, but the role of sensors in the investigation of novel therapeutic agents. In this session we also hear how bio-pharma companies are using advances in biomarker discovery as effective tools in pre-clinical studies as well as clinical trials.

This session is introduced by Professor Chris Lowe, Director, Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge, co-founder of multiple biosensor companies.

The Known Unknowns of Funding Drug Discovery

The future of drug discovery is dogged with uncertainty, especially when it comes to raising finance. Is it worth trying to predict the market’s next move, or are you simply at the mercy of market forces?

In this session we examine the pros and cons of financing drug discovery through licensing deals versus raising private or public finance. We hear from companies that have demonstrated nimble-footed efficiency in their fund raising strategies, and learn how they have adapted to changes in the market.

The Future’s Here

From “cells in wells” to growing cells without “shaking, stirring, rocking or rolling”; fromself-healing body parts to simultaneous genome sequencing in this session we hear from companies for whom the future’s not just bright, but happening right here, right now.

The conference will also hear from the CEO’s of tomorrow – Student Entrepreneurs.
